History of Udaipur

History of Udaipur The city of Udaipur was founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1568 after his defeat against the Mughal emperor Akbar in Chittorgarh. After the defeat, Udai Singh was looking for a place to re-establish his base. It is believed a holy man mediating on the hill near Pichola Lake guided him to establish his capital. Maharana Pratap succeeded Maharana Udai Singh after his death in 1572 and defended Udaipur from outside attacks. The history of Udaipur is replete with many bloody battles in which the battle of Halidghati between the Mughals and Maharana Pratap is of great historical significance. After the coming of the British, a treaty to protect Udaipur was signed. After the independence Udaipur was merged with the Indian Union.
