History of Bundi

History of Bundi

Bundi is a small yet beautiful town 36 km from Kota. It was an integral part of Kota once and was ruled by the Hada Chauhans, an offshoots of the famous Chauhans of Delhi and Ajmer. In 1193 AD, when Sultan Mohammed Ghauri defeated Prithviraj Chauhan, some Chauhan nobles took shelter in Mewar and became allies of the Ranas. Some of the nobles went to the Chambal valley and dominated the Meena and Bhil tribals, thereby establishing their own kingdom of Hadoti. Later, these two branches of Hadas formed two separates states of Kota and Bundi on either side of the river Chambal. Bundi was an independent state within the British rule and became a part of India after the Independence in 1947.
