Foy Sagar Lake is situated 5 km from Ajmer. It is an artificial lake built as a famine relief project by an Englishman, Mr. Foy.
Pushkar, 11 km from Ajmer, is considered a sacred town for the Hindus. There are about 400 temples and shrines near the holy lake. According to the legends, the lotus dropped from the hands of Lord Brahma, when he came looking for a place to hold his yagna or the religious sacrifice. The three spots touched by the lotus turned into lakes and are now known as the Jyeshtha Pushkar or the main Pushkar, the Madhyam Pushkar or the medium Pushkar and the Kanishtha Pushkar or the little Pushkar. The only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma in India is located at Pushkar. The other important temples are those of Gayatri, Savitri, Shiva and Badri Narayan.
Mangliyawas, 26 km from Ajmer, is famous for two trees of rare specie, Adansonia digitata linn. Popularly known as Kalpa-Vrikhsha, these trees are believed to be more than 800 year old. People throng to this place to have a look of the trees through out the year. But maximum people come to worship the trees on the dark moon day of shravan.
The Rathore prince, Kishan Singh, founded Kishangarh, which is 27 km from Ajmer. It rose to fame in the 18th century as one of the finest schools of miniatures paintings. The paintings of Bani Thani are the most celebrated. The Phool Mahal or the Palace of Flower is the main attraction of the town. It has now been converted into a heritage hotel. The town is now an industrial town for marble and textiles.
